Today Nikki talks about important safety equipment you should wear whenever operating any outdoor power tool.

Accident Prevention transcript

Accidents and injuries can happen to pros and rookies alike when using outdoor power equipment.

No matter what kind of equipment you're using it's important to always protect yourself with at least gloves for your hands, muffs or plugs for your ears, and safety glasses and goggles or a shield for your face.  Even if you're experienced at handling power equipment, there's no way to predict what unseen debris may be in your way or how it will fly.

It's always important to protect your ears since small engines run at dangerously loud levels which could affect your hearing over time.

In addition to these basic precautions some kinds of equipment suggests further protection.  Leaf blowers, for example, recommend using a mask to prevent inhalation of dust and particle.  Your owner's manual will tell you exactly what you need to safely operate your equipment.
